Steam Ends Support for Windows 10

Steam, one of the largest platforms in the gaming world, is preparing to mark the end of a period in its technological history with this new decision. While the 32-bit version of Windows 10 has been used by a small user base for years, it has now reached the end of its life. Steam has officially decided to end support for this operating system, heralding a significant change, especially for players with older hardware.

Steam Ends Support for Windows 10 32-Bit

Valve confirmed on September 18th that Steam will completely end support for the Windows 10 32-bit operating system as of January 1, 2026. After this date, the platform will no longer provide updates or support for any technical issues. Valve recommends users upgrade to a 64-bit operating system to enjoy the most up-to-date gaming experience.

Steam Ends Support for Windows 10

With Microsoft’s release of Windows 11 in 2021, the countdown for Windows 10 had begun. The company had announced that Windows 10 would end its mainstream support period on October 14, 2025, and would only provide security updates afterward. This further accelerated the transition to 64-bit systems, particularly in the gaming world. Steam’s move is seen as aligning with Microsoft’s policy.

According to Steam’s August 2025 hardware survey, gamers using the 32-bit version of Windows 10 account for only 0.01 percent of total users. However, Windows 11 64-bit is the most widely used operating system with 60.39 percent, while Windows 10 64-bit comes in second with 35.08 percent. This chart further illustrates why Valve is now ending 32-bit support.

Steam, meanwhile, announced that it will continue to support the 64-bit version of Windows 10. It also stated that 32-bit games and applications on the platform will continue to work. However, it won’t be possible to take advantage of Steam’s new features on a 32-bit operating system. Therefore, it seems inevitable that players with older systems will need to update to continue enjoying the game in the future.
