Steam is testing its new Discovery feature
Steam is working on a brand new tool to make game discovery easier. The platform has opened this feature, called “Personal Calendar,” to testing through Steam Labs. Developed to ensure players don’t miss out on titles that might interest them on a platform where thousands of games are released each year, this system aims to offer completely personalized recommendations.
Steam’s Personal Calendar Feature Is Shaped by Players’ Interests
Unlike traditional discovery pages, Steam’s new feature is entirely based on user play habits. The calendar analyzes the genres and games players spend the most time on and lists upcoming release dates for similar titles. The system is updated daily, keeping recommendations always up-to-date.
Steam designed this feature to display not only new games but also recently released titles. This allows players to easily see games released within the last month or week. An interesting detail is that the calendar only covers weekdays. Valve chose to keep these days free of unnecessary data clutter because there are very few game releases on weekends.
The Personal Calendar also displays games on users’ wishlists. This allows players to keep track of titles that have previously piqued their interest without losing sight of them. The system, which has a visually simple interface, can be tailored to personal preferences with various filtering and customization options.
Valve states that the feature is currently in the experimental phase and that they prioritize user feedback. The Personal Calendar, which is currently being tested through Steam Labs, may be rolled out to all users later. It appears that Steam is preparing to not only host games but also to help players discover the right games in smarter ways.
