Superman Could End 17-Year DC Curse
The DC cinematic universe has long been searching for a new direction. One of the new cornerstones shaped by James Gunn’s leadership has been Superman. While the film, released in 2025, doesn’t directly signal a sequel, the character’s place in the DCU is quite critical. The question fans are wondering is clear: Will DC break its 17-year silence on Superboy with Superman 2?
Could Superman 2 Introduce Superboy to the Universe?
Superboy’s last indirect appearance in DC’s live-action productions was in 2006’s Superman Returns. While Superman’s son Jason displayed superpowers in that film, he was neither named Conner nor directly referred to as Superboy. In other words, Superboy hasn’t made a full-fledged theatrical debut in 17 years.
James Gunn’s new universe is a strong candidate to break this cycle. It’s already known that Superman will appear in various projects. This means that details like Lois Lane’s pregnancy could be explored in other productions before a sequel. If such a development occurs, Superboy’s appearance in Superman 2 would be a much more natural fit.
Superboy’s inclusion in the universe would not only showcase Superman’s legacy but also deepen the relationship between Lois and Clark. Their chemistry in the first film was highly appreciated by fans. Adding a child to this balance could make for even more powerful and emotional scenes.
The television series Superman & Lois successfully demonstrated that this family structure could be brought to life on screen. If the same formula were brought to the big screen with a larger budget, it could help the DCU evolve in a different direction. Of course, the realization of all these possibilities will depend on whether Superman 2 breaks the years-long silence surrounding Superboy.
