Switch 2 Can Easily Run Xbox Series S Games

Nintendo’s new-generation console, the Switch 2, continues to arouse great curiosity in the gaming world in terms of performance. While the issue of how current-generation games will be adapted to this device has long been a subject of debate, the statements made by Virtuos contain remarkable information. According to the statement, Xbox Series S games running at 60 FPS can easily be transferred to the Switch 2.

Switch 2 Closes the Gap with DLSS Technology

Speaking to Wccftech, Virtuos North America Business Development Director Eoin O’Grady admits that the Switch 2’s overall performance is slightly below the Xbox Series S. However, there is an important difference here: DLSS technology, which is not available in the Series S, significantly supports the Switch 2’s graphics power. In this way, the GPU capabilities between the two consoles become almost equal.

On the CPU side, the Switch 2’s performance remains more at the PS4 level. Still, O’Grady states that many games are more GPU-dependent than CPU-dependent. For this reason, he emphasizes that well-optimized 60 FPS Xbox Series S games can be transferred to the Switch 2 without any problems. It is even stated that a similar transition is possible for 30 FPS games based on the GPU.

However, not everything may be that easy for developers. The porting process becomes more difficult in games with complex physics engines, intensive animations, or games that put a load on the processor. It is stated that extra optimization and development time is required in such cases. As the targeted FPS value increases, the port cost and technical difficulty also increase.

All these explanations show that the Switch 2 is technically very close to the Series S level. It is thought that Nintendo will be able to maintain its weight in the gaming world in the new generation thanks to DLSS support. However, it should also be kept in mind that not every game can be ported with the same ease and that some projects will require serious adaptation work.
