Switch 2 Game Sales Failed to Meet Expectations

The Nintendo Switch 2 has managed to create excitement in the gaming world with the technical improvements it offers. However, despite its powerful hardware, the sales figures of third-party games have not met expectations. While first-party games such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza have broken records, other productions specially prepared or ported for the Switch 2 have not received the same attention for now.

Third-Party Games Are Having a Hard Time on the Switch 2

Although the Switch 2’s hardware has become more suitable for big-budget games, reports suggest that third-party games have not reached the desired sales levels. According to data shared by The Game Business, many publishers have described the sales of their games as “lower than expected.” Despite this, the console itself is progressing quite successfully in sales.

Switch 2 Game Sales Failed to Meet Expectations

There are several reasons for this. The first-generation Switch was released with only five physical games, while the Switch 2 launched with 13 different physical games. While this wide range may seem like an advantage at first glance, players have largely preferred Nintendo’s own games.

The console’s backward compatibility is also an important factor. Previous Switch games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can be played on the Switch 2 with technical improvements. This makes it attractive to turn to existing popular titles instead of new third-party games.

Another factor is that most third-party games are not new. Old games ported for the Switch 2 have already been experienced by many players, reducing the desire to repurchase. According to experts, completely new third-party games can make a difference in sales performance.
