Switch 2 Pre-Orders Hit With Customs Duty
Nintendo’s long-awaited Switch 2 console was expected to start pre-orders. However, it seems that the company will not be able to start this process on the planned date. Behind this postponement of the pre-order date is not only production or supply, but also a political decision. This decision made by the company is of great interest to those waiting for the new console.
Switch 2 Orders Stuck in Trump Taxes
The reason for the delay of Switch 2 pre-orders was the tariffs that have resurfaced in the US. The regulation, which was implemented during the term of former President Donald Trump and imposed additional taxes on electronic products imported from China, directly affected Nintendo’s decision. The company may have to pay an additional tax of up to 25% if the consoles are imported to the US. This complicates the pricing and sales strategy of the Switch 2.
Nintendo is therefore making plans to shift production of products to countries outside of China. Starting pre-orders for Switch 2 before this process is complete could also have negative consequences for users. The company preferred to postpone the process until new production plans are clear. Although this did not affect the console’s official launch date, it caused pre-orders to be suspended indefinitely.
The risk of price increases due to additional taxes requires Nintendo to act carefully. The company’s goal is to offer the Switch 2 to consumers at the most affordable cost possible. For this reason, timing and production processes have become quite critical. The possibility of customs duties coming into effect has made it necessary to reconsider all plans.
Nintendo has not yet made an official statement about the new pre-order date. However, according to industry sources, the company aims to restart pre-orders after completing the changes in the supply chain. Switch 2 users will have to follow this process closely.
