The Game Awards 2024 Finalists Are Full of Sales
The Game Awards, the most prestigious awards ceremony in the gaming world, announced its nominees for 2024 last month. Many of the finalist games saw a significant increase in sales in Europe following their nominations.

GamesIndustry President Christopher Dring announced that, according to GSD data across Europe, sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, one of the “Game of the Year” nominees, increased by 268% compared to the previous week. Sales of another nominee, Astro Bot, increased by 61%, sales of Elden Ring, one of the most talked-about games of 2022, increased by 38%, sales of the indie game Metaphor: ReFantazio increased by 172%, and sales of Silent Hill 2, a remake of the survival-horror legend Silent Hill series, increased by 43%.
Dring emphasized that the figures were not very high in general, but that there was a definite increase in sales of the games after their nominations. He also added that game sales naturally start to increase during this time of year.
The Game Awards honor games in more than 30 categories, including “Game of the Year”, “Best Director”, “Best Narrative”, “Best Art Direction”, “Best Music”, and “Best Performance”. The winners are determined by the votes of a jury consisting of leading figures in the gaming industry and game lovers.
