The Guitar Hero Team Returns to the Stage with RedOctane
Rhythm games were once a staple, but over time, they faded into obscurity. Now, the legend known as RedOctane is returning and aiming to spark a new wave of activity in the gaming world. This return includes both familiar faces from cult series like Guitar Hero and a new generation of developers.
RedOctane is Ready for a New Generation of Rhythm Games
Officially established as RedOctane Games, the new studio is embarking on a mission to revitalize the rhythm game genre. The studio’s “small but passionate” team includes veterans from popular franchises like Guitar Hero and DJ Hero. In addition, creative developers and content creators from the global rhythm game community have joined the team.
The company’s statements emphasize that RedOctane Games focuses solely on rhythm games, aiming to advance the genre by combining the past and the future. This approach is likely to excite both nostalgia-seeking players and those seeking innovation.
One notable member of the team is Simon Ebejer. Ebejer served as production director on several Guitar Hero games during the Neversoft era and later held executive positions at major studios such as Vicarious Visions and Blizzard Entertainment. Ebejer, who also played a key role in the organization of Diablo 4, is now one of the leaders of RedOctane Games.
RedOctane Games’ first game has been in pre-production for some time and has now been announced as fully operational. The project is expected to be announced this year. It was also announced that Guitar Hero founders Charles and Kai Huang will serve on the company’s advisory board. All these developments signal a potential resurgence in rhythm games.
