The MindsEye Failure Would Have Ended His Career
In the gaming world, failure can affect not only the development studios but also everyone involved in a project. MindsEye was a striking example of this. Alex Hernandez, who plays the lead character Jacob Diaz, openly discussed how his career was jeopardized by the game’s failed launch in a podcast.
MindsEye Actor Shares Career Concerns
Hernandez has been involved in controversial projects in the past. In 2016, he played Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3, but the game received significant criticism for technical issues and bugs. Years later, the actor, now back in front of the camera for MindsEye, faced a similar disappointment. The game has become known as one of the most unsuccessful productions of 2025.
The actor spoke candidly on the FRVR Podcast. “I’m not a superstitious person, but it’s like everything I touch rots,” he said, expressing his concern about repeating these failures in his own career. Hernandez summarized his post-launch anxiety by saying, “I might not be able to act in games again.”
Another issue Hernandez emphasized was that he directly related the negative reactions from players to himself. Hernandez, whose character’s face, voice, and body became the game’s symbol, said, “People are channeling all their feelings about the game through my face,” emphasizing how damaging the situation was for his career.
MindsEye ranked 2025’s lowest-rated game on Metacritic with a score of 37, while its user rating remained at 2.4. The game fell behind even lower-rated titles like Tamagotchi Plaza, Ambulance Life, and Captain Blood. This figure demonstrates the legitimacy of Hernandez’s career concerns.
