The Order of Giants DLC Didn’t Meet Expectations

Last year’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was widely praised for its strong story, level design that rewards exploration, and visually stunning gameplay. The fact that the Order of Giants, a lingering mystery, would be explored in this DLC generated excitement. However, the resulting narrative was a major disappointment.

Why Did The Order of Giants Fail?

Despite the developers’ promise of a “story-driven” DLC, The Order of Giants offers a rather superficial narrative. Little is revealed about the main story, and the new details it offers provide almost no depth. Furthermore, the content, culminating in a single boss battle, disappointed many players with its short running time and seemingly inconsequential ending.

Despite the short campaign, the puzzles remain one of the game’s strongest points. The core game maintains its quality thanks to increased difficulty, cleverly designed mechanics, and a solid gameplay experience. However, the lack of story overshadows these strong elements.

The city of Rome, one of the most anticipated elements for players, is also a disappointment in the DLC. Instead of magnificent monuments and streets, a large portion takes place in the old sewers of the Cloaca Maxima. While this choice is atmospheric, it feels like a wasted opportunity.

On the visual front, the DLC takes a strong step forward. New graphical updates, supported by RTX Hair and lighting systems, have made the visuals more realistic. Combined with technologies like path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction, the game’s ENGINE engine delivers near-flawless performance. From a technical perspective, the content is quite impressive.

While The Order of Giants is satisfying in terms of gameplay and visuals, it fails to deliver the expected impact due to its lack of narrative. Given the limited content it offers for its $19.99 price tag, it makes more sense to get this DLC at a lower price. While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle remains highly recommended, The Order of Giants is harder to say.
