The Producer’s Clear Response to Doctor Who Ending Rumors
As rumors of Doctor Who‘s end have circulated rapidly in recent days, producer Jane Tranter has directly addressed these claims. Tranter stated that the series has neither been cancelled nor terminated, saying, “This is truly rude and completely untrue.” The statement has renewed hope for the future of the 60-year-old series, a partnership between the BBC and Disney+.
Producer Jane Tranter: “Doctor Who Will Continue”
The rumors emerged following statements made by former Doctor Who writer Robert Shearman in Doctor Who Magazine. Shearman stated that the series was “more dead than it has ever been,” and claimed that the ambiguous finale of the final season, in particular, had destroyed audience interest. These remarks sparked a significant debate about the series’ future.
Jane Tranter, however, categorically denied these claims in an interview with BBC Radio Wales. “That’s a really crude comment and completely false,” Tranter said, adding that the series is still in active production. According to the producer, only 21 episodes of the 26-episode deal between the BBC and Disney+ have been completed. The remaining five episodes will air as part of a spin-off series called “The War Between The Land And The Sea.”
Tranter also confirmed that decisions about the series’ future will be made after this season. However, she reassured those rumors that Doctor Who would end by saying, “This is a 60-year-old series; it naturally evolves, but it doesn’t disappear. The Doctor will definitely return.”
Despite a decline in ratings in the series’ final run, Doctor Who still boasts significant production power thanks to the partnership between the BBC and Disney+. Tranter stated that the series’ continued renewal is inevitable, and hinted at a potential creative transformation with the statement, “Nothing should stay the same forever.” Although details about the series’ new season have not yet been revealed, it is now clear that the rumors that Doctor Who is coming to an end are unfounded.
