The Sims 1 and 2 Legacy Collections Released
Maxis and EA has released The Sims 1 and 2 Legacy Collections, featuring nearly all of the games’ downloadable content, to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
The Release of The Sims 1 and 2 Legacy Collections
The launch of the first The Sims game on PC was a landmark release for the SimCity developer, serving as one of the first major life simulation games. The Sims would pave the way for many of the staples of the franchise going forward, including the games’ bizarre “Simlish” language and its plethora of DLC expansions. The Sims’ success would see it ported to multiple home consoles as well, appearing on platforms like the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox among others. Now, fans are getting the chance to experience the series’ roots once again with a new re-release.
Maxis and EA officially released a new pair of compilations for the first two Sims games on Friday morning, after the compilations had been heavily rumored. Both compilations come with a sizable pack of expansions, with The Sims featuring popular expansion packs like “Livin’ Large” and “House Party” while The Sims 2 comes with seventeen different expansion packs. The Sims game compilations can also be bought as part of a bundle celebrating the franchise’s “25th Birthday.” The Sims Legacy Collection is available on Steam for $19.99, while fans will pay $29.99 for The Sims 2 Legacy Collection.

The new releases from The Sims gives fans a chance to look back at the series’ earliest days as the future of the franchise remains unclear. Maxis previously confirmed Project Rene as its next major project related to the Sims franchises, with many fans expecting that the game would eventually become The Sims 5. However, newer assertions from the developer have confirmed that Project Rene is, in actuality, not the fifth main series entry, but a separate project entirely.
