The Sinking City 2 Announces Return Date
The Sinking City 2, notable for its dark, Lovecraft-themed world, has finally reached its official release window. Developer Frogwares announced that the game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in the first half of 2026. The project, which was delayed due to the war in Ukraine and the challenges of the genre change, is shaping up to be a production the studio “wants to complete on its own terms.”
The Sinking City 2 Will Release in 2026 After a Challenging Process
Frogwares’ head of publishing, Sergiy Oganesyan, stated that the game’s development process was quite challenging in a war-torn environment. Oganesyan emphasized the severity of the process, saying, “Sometimes we experienced power outages for days. Drone attacks and bombardments keep you up at night, but you have to keep working in the morning.”
The studio initially targeted a surprise 2025 release, but was forced to change plans due to circumstances and technical requirements. Oganesyan said, “We don’t want to rush into anything anymore and sacrifice quality. We’re aiming for the first half of 2026; that’s just a few months, not a year.”
This time, The Sinking City 2 is being developed as a full-fledged survival horror experience, moving away from the classic detective story. Lead designer Alexander Gresko said the genre shift was a major learning curve for his team: “We’ve been making mystery and investigation-focused games for two decades, but horror requires a completely different mindset. We’ve worked hard on tension, pacing, and combat mechanics.”
Frogwares also shared 13 new screenshots from the game. The visuals are striking in both the dark atmosphere and grotesque creature designs. The studio also confirmed that it will release more gameplay footage in the coming months. The Sinking City 2, which will be released in the first half of 2026, aims to offer horror fans a different experience by both staying true to the series’ roots and experimenting with a new genre.
