The Witcher 3 Reaches Its Highest Player Count in Two Years

Following CD Projekt Red’s announcement of The Witcher 4, the previous game in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, saw a huge increase in players. According to Steam data on December 22, there were 46,370 players in the game at the same time. This represents the highest level since the peak of 79,000 players in January 2023. The Witcher 3 has become a legend in the RPG genre since its release in 2015. Especially the next-gen update that came in 2022 has rekindled the interest of players. However, the reason for this latest increase was the impressive announcement of The Witcher 4 at the Game Awards.

The Witcher 4 Excitement and Ciri Discussions

The announcement of The Witcher 4 excited fans of the series. In particular, the six-minute cinematic trailer gave clues about both the new world and Ciri as the main character. However, this situation was criticized by some players.

Ciri’s design and potentially powerful abilities have caused controversy among gamers, with CD Projekt Red responding to these concerns: “We’ve created a gap in the story to balance Ciri’s power level. We’re taking great care to stay true to both the books and the previous games.”

With The Witcher 4 still years away from release, gamers are starting to return to The Witcher 3 to re-immerse themselves in this fantasy world. This return to CDPR’s previous games has proven the quality and impact of The Witcher 3 on gamers. The game is still indispensable to millions, especially with two expansions and a modern console version coming in 2022.
