Three New Projects from Ubisoft
Ubisoft has redirected its development team to other projects after Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown failed to meet expectations. The company decided to disband the team and use their expertise on other projects after the game’s sales failed to reach the targeted level. This step confirms rumors that Ubisoft has given up on The Lost Crown and a possible sequel.
Three Different Projects from Ubisoft’s Developers
According to Ubisoft, most of the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team has been redirected to work on three new projects. The majority of team members have joined the development of the long-anticipated Beyond Good and Evil 2. About a dozen employees have started work on Project Ovr, a new Ghost Recon game, while another group has moved to Steambot, the Rayman Remake project being developed by Ubisoft Milan.
The most notable of these projects is Beyond Good and Evil 2, which has been in development for years and still has no release date. The fact that the company continues to invest millions of dollars every year for this game has caused some employees to question the cost-benefit balance of the project. On the other hand, the Steambot project for the Rayman Remake is causing some controversy due to the involvement of original creator Michel Ancel as a consultant.
Although the developers of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown describe the project as “excellent”, they state that they were unable to fully express their creativity due to Ubisoft’s high expectations. At the time of release, sales were below the company’s target, leading to uncertainty about the game’s future. Although Ubisoft’s efforts to bring the game to more players continue, the future of the series remains uncertain for the time being.
