Unannounced Blade Runner Game Cancelled
Known for its cinematic narrative, Supermassive Games was working on an unannounced new Blade Runner game. However, according to information uncovered by Insider Gaming, this ambitious project called “Blade Runner: Time To Live” was quietly canceled at the end of last year. The production, which was designed as a character-driven action-adventure game set in 2065, was reportedly shelved despite its high budget and remarkable story structure.
Blade Runner: Time To Live Details
“Blade Runner: Time To Live” was designed as a third-person action-adventure game that aims to take players to the underworld of New Zurich in 2065. Players would take on the role of the Nexus-6 model So-Lange character, whose lifespan should have long since ended, and take on the task of both surviving and “retiring” a rebel leader. The story was planned to feature elements such as betrayal, discovery, investigation and conflict.
The game would be based on four main gameplay mechanics: stealth, melee and gunplay, exploration, and dramatic dialogue. In addition, features such as the use of past memories, investigations using technological tools, and character development would add depth to the gameplay. The team leading the project consisted of experienced developers who had previously worked on The Quarry. Pre-production began in 2024, and the prototype phase was planned to be completed by September 2025.
It was announced that a budget of approximately $45 million was allocated for the production, $9 million of which would be spent on outsourced performance capture and casting. However, original music, voice acting royalties, testing processes, and DLC content were not included in the budget. This meant that the total cost of the project could increase over time.
Although no direct reason was shared for the game’s cancellation, sources stated that this was due to Alcon Entertainment, the rights holder of Blade Runner. While sources close to the project described the game as “impressive,” neither Supermassive Games nor Alcon Entertainment have made an official statement at this stage.
Although the cancellation of another game set in the Blade Runner universe has upset fans of the series, the leaked details about the project seem like they will be talked about for a long time. If another production is announced in the future, traces of this canceled project may reappear in that game.
