What are the hidden details in The Witcher 4 Trailer?

The Witcher 4 trailer, released at the Game Awards 2024 last year, created excitement for CD Projekt RED’s next big adventure. A special video released today revealed important details about the trailer’s production process. This process includes a full 14 days of motion capture. The trailer is not only a reflection of the game’s story, but also aims to make players think about what could happen at the end of the trailer.

The Witcher 4 Trailer Production Process

The Witcher 4 trailer was meticulously prepared by a creative team. To bring the main creature in the trailer, the “bauk” monster, to life, four operators moved the creature’s physical prototype simultaneously. Stunt coordinator Maciej Kwiatkowski described the process as “creating a Witcher-style sequence,” and stated that these movements were transformed into real-time animation.

Additionally, the team spent three days using special cinematic equipment to capture details like lens flares, distortions, and the creature’s head movements. This data was then used to create digital camera lenses in the game engine.

The trailer’s story is described as an adaptation of the game’s story. “The trailer is not a black-and-white situation. We expect players to evaluate some situations and make difficult decisions,” said Philipp Weber, narrative director at CD Projekt RED. The trailer ends with a narration that prompts players to think about what might happen on Ciri’s dangerous journey.

Ciri’s words in the trailer, “There are no gods here, only monsters,” are a reference to the iconic “Killing Monsters” cinematic from the third game in the series. The phrase hints at the game’s dark and complex themes. CD Projekt RED can’t wait to see what players make of this trailer. While The Witcher 4 has yet to be released, expectations for the game are quite high after this trailer.
