Will Battlefield 6 Reach 100 Million Players?
Although the Battlefield series has lost its former popularity in recent years, EA has rolled up its sleeves to reverse this situation. Battlefield 6, whose official name has not yet been announced, is being prepared with the collaboration of hundreds of developers from many studios within the company, and there is serious expectation for this game.
EA’s Goal for Battlefield 6 is Huge
According to a report prepared by Ars Technica, EA’s top management expects Battlefield 6 to reach 100 million users. This ambitious goal aims to compete with giants such as Call of Duty and Fortnite. The report states that the free-to-play battle royale mode in particular will have the greatest impact on reaching this number of users.
However, the data suggests caution. A source working within EA states that the entire Battlefield series has not reached 100 million sales in total as of 2022. It is estimated that even the most successful game, Battlefield 1, has only sold around 30 million copies.
The report also reveals that Battlefield 6 is the most expensive Battlefield game ever developed. The budget announced for 2023 is reported to be around half a billion dollars. However, this big investment also brings with it big risks.
Some sources within EA believe that the game will not be able to reach this ambitious goal. In fact, it is stated that even those who have been working at DICE for a long time think that this goal is unrealistic. The game’s market research and current quality indicators show that reaching 100 million users does not seem possible at the moment.
Nevertheless, EA hopes that it can attract interest from the existing player base to its side without having to tear users away from other games to achieve this goal. Time will tell whether Battlefield 6 will meet these expectations.
