DC Universe fans have regained hope. Director Zack Snyder shared a new still of Henry Cavill as Superman on his Instagram account, and it quickly became a trending topic on social media. The post reignited rumors that Cavill would return to DC, and the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse also revived.

Zack Snyder is working on his long-awaited new film, The Last Photograph. However, the director’s shared footage of Cavill from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice generated far more buzz than the project itself. Snyder’s post, captioned “Henry Cavill is Superman,” once again rekindled longing for the old DCEU era.

DC Studios, headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, is currently in the process of rebuilding its universe. Despite this, Snyder’s photo featuring Cavill has raised the question, “Could we see the old Superman back in Elseworlds projects?” Snyder’s previous statement, “As long as the characters stay true to their mythological foundations, I’m always in,” has given fans new hope.

Gunn, however, hasn’t remained silent on the matter. When a user on the social media platform Threads reminded him of Snyder’s statements, Gunn said, “I already knew those words because he messaged me. He’s been supportive throughout this process,” highlighting the good relationship between the two directors. This suggests that the bridges haven’t completely burned between the two parties.

Meanwhile, Snyder continues to work on several new projects besides The Last Photograph. He’s also slated to begin filming Brawler and an LAPD-centered action thriller. However, the director’s single photo has overshadowed all these projects and reignited the Superman and Henry Cavill debate. DC fans are looking for an answer to the question, “Is this just a nostalgia post, or is it a sign of something?”
