Windows 11 Becomes PC Gamers’ Favorite Operating System
Windows 11 has finally taken the throne as the most popular operating system among PC gamers. According to the results of the August 2024 Steam Hardware and Software Survey, Windows 11 now holds the throne long held by Windows 10.
The Rise of Windows 11: Why It’s the Choice for PC Gamers
The Steam survey shows that Windows 11 has reached 50% market share (49.17% to be exact), an increase of 3.36% from July 2024. This means that more PC gamers are abandoning Windows 10 and switching to Windows 11. One of the reasons behind this migration is that modern PC games and platforms, especially giants like Steam, Xbox, EA and Ubisoft, are optimized for Windows 11.
While Windows 11 is still struggling to become the most popular operating system among the general user base, PC gamers are steadily migrating to the new version. Especially the optimization of technologies such as DirectX for Windows 11 plays a big role in gamers’ preference for this operating system. For some gamers, upgrading to Windows 11 has become a necessity, not only to take advantage of the latest features, but also to stay up to date and play the latest games smoothly.
According to Steam data, the Windows operating system is preferred by 96.78% of gamers, with Linux at 1.96% and MacOS at 1.30%. Older versions of Windows are now almost forgotten among gamers.
