Witcher 4 is being made with the old spirit
It’s been a full decade since The Witcher 3, but CD Projekt Red continues to work with the same enthusiasm and free spirit on Witcher 4. Studio veteran and Witcher 4 narrative director Philipp Weber said that they shaped the project with the creative chaos of the old days. Full-scale development of the new game began in late 2024.
The Old Air Is Felt in the Witcher 4 Development Process
Philipp Weber states that the Witcher 4 team is moving with an energy that knows no bounds, just like during the Witcher 3 period. Weber, who started as a quest designer for Witcher 3 in 2013, emphasizes that the “creative chaos” environment of those days is also reflected in Witcher 4. “Sometimes I say: Just do it. Work dirty like before, finish fast!” summarizes the team’s working style with the phrase.
Of course, this seemingly irregular method is actually a result of respect for the legacy of The Witcher 3. Weber says that they will continue the same storytelling philosophy in the new game, but they will also seek answers to different questions. In this way, both a faithful sequel will emerge and a fresh experience will be offered with new experiments.
CD Projekt Red recently shared the technological promotional video it prepared for Witcher 4. The dazzling valleys, enchanted forests and scenes reflecting the gloomy atmosphere of the Middle Ages raised the expectations of the players. All this “creative chaos” seems promising for the fans of the series. Witcher 4 is not expected to be released before 2027.
