28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Trailer Released

The 28 Years Later universe, created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, is expanding with a new perspective under the direction of Nia DaCosta. The trailer and poster for the second installment in the series, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, have been released. The new film explores the darker aspects of the survivors beyond the virus and the corruption of humanity.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Trailer Highlights

In the trailer, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) is drawn into a mysterious connection, while Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) turns into a terrifying nightmare. Jimmy’s sadistic behavior and the rise of the Alpha character suggest a more disturbing atmosphere awaits the audience.

Nia DaCosta states that she shaped the film with her own interpretation rather than copying Danny Boyle’s style. According to the director, the film will feel like “28 Years Later’s strange, deeply disturbing cousin.” Garland’s script takes the story to a more surprising and experimental level.

In the film, the infected are no longer a threat in and of themselves. The real danger comes from the survivors, who have lost their humanity. This seems to be one of the most striking elements that shifts the tone of the series. In the words of Jack O’Connell, audiences won’t see “the infected as merely enemies.”

It has also been confirmed that Cillian Murphy’s Jim will appear at the end of the film, setting up the trilogy’s conclusion. However, the larger story remains a mystery, and more details are expected to be revealed with this film. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple brings together Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry. The film will be released on January 16, 2026.
