89-Year-Old Skyrim Grandma Moves to Oblivion
Known as “Skyrim Grandma” on YouTube, 89-year-old Shirley Curry has been wandering around the Skyrim universe for over a decade. But now she’s embarked on a new journey: Oblivion, another legendary entry in the Elder Scrolls universe. Curry, who had a bit of a hard time with the changes in controls she was used to from Skyrim, seemed to have not warmed up to Oblivion’s movement system at first.
Oblivion Doesn’t Give in to Grandma Easily
Curry’s transition to Oblivion resembles a kind of gamer evolution. After her experience in Skyrim, Oblivion’s different control system surprises her. “I press the F key, it sheathes the weapon… It used to be the R key!” Curry says, reacting to this new system that she couldn’t get used to at first. She also describes the movement system as “absolutely ugly.” Still, the beauty of the graphics seems to have impressed her.
It is possible to watch Curry’s introduction to the game in his first two videos about Oblivion. In these contents titled “Learning” and “Still Learning”, he wanders around the open world of Cyrodiil in fascination. He especially takes plenty of screenshots around the Imperial City and praises the aesthetics of the game. However, Oblivion’s dark and complex caves may be a bit too much for a newcomer.
The lockpicking system was one of the details that challenged him the most. Curry, who was used to Skyrim’s lockpicking mechanics, quickly gave up on Oblivion’s more complex system and had to resort to the automatic solution button. The deep sigh he gave during this experience reflects the feeling that many Oblivion players have experienced for years.
Although his Oblivion adventure has just begun, it may not take long for Curry to get used to Cyrodiil. In fact, if things go well, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his next stop is Morrowind. Despite her age, Shirley Curry continues to inspire the next generation of gamers with her passion and energy for the game.
