A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Trailer Released
The Game of Thrones universe is returning to the big screen once again. HBO has officially released the first trailer for its new spin-off series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Developed by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, the series is based on the author’s stories Tales of Dunk and Egg. The six-episode series will take place in the century immediately following the Age of the Dragons in Westeros and focus on the adventures of two unlikely heroes.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Brings a New Breath to the Game of Thrones Universe
In the new series, Peter Claffey takes on the role of Ser Duncan the Tall, a brave but naive knight. He is joined by Dexter Sol Ansell as the young Aegon Targaryen (aka “Egg”). The cast also includes Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell. The first season will adapt the main events of The Hedge Knight, which premiered in 1998.
The synopsis shared by HBO clearly outlines the series’ tone: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roam Westeros: Duncan the Tall, a young, naive, but brave knight, and his young squire, Egg.” During this period, the Targaryen dynasty still rules the Iron Throne, and the memory of dragons hasn’t faded from the public’s memory.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Ira Parker stated that the series will be much more “simple and character-driven” than Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. “Dunk is an ordinary man, far from grandstanding,” Parker said. “There are no grand thrones or giant battles in this series. You’re alone with the land, the cold, and the courage of medieval Britain.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere on HBO Max on January 18, 2026. Focusing on this simpler, more human era of Westeros, the series will be a return to the roots of the Game of Thrones universe. The trailer, which has already generated considerable interest, aims to recapture the series’ long-awaited spirit.
