A New Name Joins the Lanterns Series
The cast for DC Studios’ highly anticipated new series Lanterns continues to take shape. Finally, it was announced that Emmy award-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney has joined the project. The series, which will air on HBO and Max, focuses on the Green Lantern universe, and which character Linney will portray remains a mystery for now.
Laura Linney Adds Strength to Lanterns Cast
The news that Laura Linney will be cast in Lanterns was announced by industry source Jeff Sneider. The 61-year-old veteran actress is in the cast alongside 59-year-old Kyle Chandler, making her a strong candidate for the character of Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan’s love interest in the comics. Sneider discussed the possibility on the podcast “The Hot Mic.”
Carol Ferris, who has an important place in Hal Jordan’s story, gradually becomes a character with different powers in the universe with the identity of Star Sapphire. However, considering the tone and character choices of the series, it seems more likely that Ferris will be introduced as a powerless person in this version. Because a comprehensive structure regarding the other colors of the emotional spectrum has not yet been presented in this phase of the DCU.
In addition to Hal Jordan, the main focus of the series will be the character of John Stewart. John Stewart, who will be played by Aaron Pierre, takes on a central role in the story. The series will focus on these two Green Lantern members investigating a dark murder committed in the interior of America. With this structure, a narrative with a detective atmosphere, different from classic superhero narratives, will be adopted.
James Hawes, whom we know from Slow Horses and Black Mirror, directed the first two episodes of the series. Chris Mundy, the creator of True Detective: Night Country, is in the showrunner’s chair. The fact that experienced names such as Damon Lindelof and Tom King are also included in the script team shows that the Lanterns series is preparing to gain a serious place in the DC universe. The production, which is planned to be released in 2026, is a candidate to be one of the new faces of DC on the series side.
