AMD RX 9070 Surpasses Its Sibling With BIOS Support
AMD’s RX 9070 model has become a hot topic among users with a rather remarkable modding news. A forum member based in Germany updated his RX 9070 graphics card with the BIOS software of the more powerful version, the RX 9070 XT. The result is surprising: the modded card reached higher clock speeds than the XT model and outperformed the reference RX 9070 XT in synthetic tests. Although this change increases the card’s power consumption, the performance increase is not negligible.
AMD Overtakes XT with RX 9070 BIOS Modding
The standard RX 9070 comes with a clock speed of 2,140-2,610 MHz and a TGP of 220W. However, after the BIOS modding, these values increased to 2,480-3,030 MHz and a TGP of 317W. The mode used is based on flashing the BIOS of the XT version into the ASUS PRIME RX 9070. Although this process does not increase the number of cores, it does remove the restrictions on frequencies, allowing the card to run at higher speeds.
In performance tests, it is noteworthy that the card outperformed the RX 9070 XT reference model. Moreover, while the XT model comes with three 8-pin power inputs, the modded standard RX 9070 reached this power with only two 8-pin connections. This shows that the hardware can use its full potential. However, the higher power consumption and the possibility of heating also reveal that this mode may not be suitable for every user.
Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that this type of BIOS modding is risky. It can void the warranty of the card or even cause the device to become unusable. Although it is interesting for experienced users, it is not recommended for those who are not familiar with the subject. You can access the VBIOS file via this link.
This development creates an exciting alternative for RX 9070 users. BIOS modding can still be an effective performance boosting method for technology enthusiasts who like to push the hardware limits. However, as always, it is of great importance to apply it carefully and consciously. Such methods can open a new door, especially for users who want to get a performance close to the XT model at a more affordable price.
