Arrow Lake CPU Problems Solved
The Core Ultra 200S series Arrow Lake CPUs, which were released in October, claimed to deliver high performance with low power consumption. However, early reviews have shown that gaming performance in particular has fallen short of expectations. Intel’s VP of Client AI and Technical Marketing Robert Hallock told HotHardware that they have identified the root of the issues and have been gradually releasing patches over the past two weeks.
Reasons for the Slow Performance in Arrow Lake CPUs
The issues were found to be due to the timing of an update that was planned to optimize Windows’ processor power management (PPM) system. This update was supposed to be released before reviewers could test the processors, but was scheduled to be released once the processors were widely available.
Due to the missing PPM update, Intel’s performance-boosting Application Performance Optimization (APO) software was not effective in games. Additionally, incorrectly configured performance settings also had a negative impact.
Intel has released a fix for these issues in Windows 11 build 26100.2161. It also reportedly addresses a driver compatibility issue that caused blue screen errors in games like Epic Games’ Star Wars Outlaws that used Easy Anti-Cheat.
Intel plans to release another set of performance improvements for Arrow Lake CPUs in January and provide a comprehensive update at CES. For now, it recommends users update Windows and the motherboard BIOS. The final performance improvements will be provided in a “final” update next year.
