Baldur’s Gate 3 Team Tired of Making DLC

Larian Studios, which achieved great success with Baldur’s Gate 3, made a decision that surprised gamers. The studio will neither develop Baldur’s Gate 4 nor will it release DLC for the existing game. In a recent interview, CEO Swen Vincke candidly explained the reason behind this decision: Making DLC was boring and did not inspire passion for the studio.

The Real Choice of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Team is to Develop New Games

Swen Vincke stated that the studio considered DLC projects, but in the process they realized that this was not the right path. “The honest answer is: We tried to get into the DLC business. We talked about Baldur’s Gate 3 as well, but… there was no passion,” Vincke said, emphasizing that both the player and the developer should be happy. According to him, producing content just to make money caused a loss of motivation in the team.

Vincke added that after the great success of Baldur’s Gate 3, producing DLC seemed like a natural step, but after internal evaluations, they gave up on this direction. “At first, we said, ‘Yes, we’ll do DLC,’ but then when we stopped and thought about it, we said, ‘What are we doing?’ Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to go astray and then turn back from it,” he said.

Currently, Larian Studios is working intensively on two new RPG projects. Vincke stated that working on new projects increases excitement and creativity within the team. This means a better experience for both developers and future players.

On the other hand, Baldur’s Gate 3 was not left completely empty. The game was supported by a major epilogue camp update that enriched the story and various new content. However, after the last major update, Patch 8, Larian announced that they had officially completed this adventure and were now moving on to new goals.

In short, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the end of an era for Larian Studios, but it also marks the beginning of new and exciting projects. It is already eagerly awaited to see what kind of RPGs the studio will present in the future.
