Baldur’s Gate 3’s Oldest and Most Interesting Bug Is Still Active

Baldur’s Gate 3, which stands out with its wide map and detailed gameplay, continues to host an interesting bug despite many updates. This bug, known since the early days of the game and known among players as “headless Karlach”, is still active for players who follow certain steps. Moreover, its results are both funny and strange.

Karlach Has No Head But Continues to Talk in the Game

This bug is based on a quest chain related to Karlach’s beheading. When you promise the group called Paladins of Tyr to bring Karlach’s head, this option opens in dialogues. Players neutralize Karlach with a single hit in stealth and enter into dialogue with him using another character. Then, another character waiting in stealth mode is positioned and finally, Karlach is brought back to life with a revival spell.

While all characters start talking to the resurrected Karlach, the character in stealth mode can silently enter his inventory and take his head. After this point, Karlach can join the team headless. Moreover, the ‘hole’ in his throat moves when he speaks in dialogue, and if you put a helmet on him, the helmet hangs in the air. These details make the bug even more absurd and entertaining.

Thanks to this bug, players can take Karlach’s head to the Paladins and get a reward, then eliminate them with the headless Karlach. This situation, which has become a joke among players, turns Karlach into a “brainless team of heroes” together with Wyll. Larian Studios has not yet fixed this bug, and the community has adopted it as a kind of ‘feature’.
