Batman 2’s Timeline Finally Revealed
Farrell, who we first saw as the Penguin in the first film, confirmed in an interview that The Batman Part II will take place “a few weeks” after the series finale. This means the story will pick up where the series left off, exploring Gotham’s new order. This clearly demonstrates that the film and the series have established a tightly interconnected universe.
Gotham Continues Darkness in Batman Part II
The Batman series focused on Robert Pattinson as a young, fledgling Bruce Wayne, battling corruption in Gotham. The HBO series The Penguin, on the other hand, saw Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, rise through the ranks of the underworld. According to Farrell, the second film will directly address the consequences of this rise. However, there’s a troubling detail for fans: Farrell stated that the Penguin will return, this time in a much smaller role.
The film will also not feature Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), a character popular in the series. This means the criminal landscape of Gotham will be completely altered. Reeves previously stated that he wanted to tell The Batman trilogy in its own independent universe, suggesting a tone independent of the DC Universe will be maintained.
The first film, released in 2022, garnered $772 million at the box office and earned Farrell the Best Superhero Performance award. The long-awaited sequel is finally set for release on October 1, 2027. Reeves’s dark atmosphere, Pattinson’s melancholic take on Batman, and the decaying nature of Gotham are poised to return to theaters.
Pattinson will likely be joined by ZoĆ« Kravitz (Catwoman), Andy Serkis (Alfred), and Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon). It remains unclear whether Barry Keoghan will return as the Joker. However, it looks like the Joker’s shadow will once again haunt the dark streets of Gotham.
