BioShock Remake Will Arrive Later Than Expected
The remake of the original BioShock game, released in 2007, was shelved by 2K Games earlier this year. According to a report by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, this cancellation followed a change of leadership for the series’ next installment. Despite the passage of many years, the BioShock series still hasn’t received a sequel, and fans’ hopes are dwindling.
A New BioShock Game Is Also Going Through Difficult Times
In the over ten years since BioShock Infinite, the series hasn’t seen a new installment. Fans were hoping for at least a modernized version of the original, but that anticipation has been dashed. According to Schreier, the remake project was quietly canceled this year, and 2K Games has redirected its focus to the new BioShock game. However, things aren’t going well there either.
The change in leadership at the studio was the biggest factor affecting the project’s progress. Senior executives reportedly lost confidence in the project, leading to a restructuring of the development process. 2K Games stated, “We have a good game on our hands now, but our goal is to deliver a great one. We are working closely with studio leadership to plan BioShock’s future in the best possible way.”
The original BioShock, released in 2007, revolutionized the gaming world with its unique story and atmosphere. The series’ universe was expanded with the sequels BioShock 2 and Infinite, but silence has prevailed for a long time. These recent developments clearly indicate that a new BioShock game will not be released anytime soon.
While this news is disappointing for fans, it’s clear that 2K Games wants to give the series a proper return. However, there is currently no remake, nor is there a new game with a confirmed release date. The future of BioShock remains uncertain.
