BioWare Is Pulling The Plug On Anthem

Anthem, which was released with great expectations in 2019, has lost value in the eyes of both players and critics over time. The game, one of BioWare’s service-based game initiatives, did not receive the expected attention despite its live service model. Anthem, which has been silent for years, finally made an official statement and announced that Anthem’s servers will be permanently closed on January 12, 2026. Thus, Anthem will become completely unplayable.

Anthem’s Servers Will Close in 2026

According to the official statement, players will be able to continue playing the game online for approximately 180 days. However, as of today, the option to purchase in-game premium currency has been disabled. Existing balances can be used until the servers are closed.

BioWare Is Pulling The Plug On Anthem

BioWare stated that Anthem was designed as a completely online game and therefore the game cannot be played offline when the servers are closed. This statement clarified the uncertainties in the minds of players.

Anthem will be removed from the EA Play library on August 15, 2025. However, users who have previously purchased the game or added it to their library will be able to continue downloading and playing the game until January 12, 2026. This gives players one last chance.

EA emphasized that the closure of the game will not cause additional layoffs at the company. It was stated that this decision will not have an additional impact on the current team, unlike the staff reductions frequently seen in the gaming industry recently. This situation is considered a remarkable development amid the mass layoffs in recent months.
