Black Myth: Wukong has smashed its way into Steam’s top selling games and become the most played single player game in the platform’s history.
Black Myth: Wukong Break Records
After being announced all the way back in 2020, Black Myth: Wukong was finally released on August 20 for PlayStation 5 and PC. While the new action RPG will also be coming to Xbox consoles, developer Game Science had bad news for fans when it announced just two months before launch that Black Myth: Wukong had been delayed for Xbox Series X/S. There’s currently no release date for Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox, but Game Science says the delay was due to the game not meeting the studio’s standards on Microsoft’s current generation of consoles.
With reviews for Black Myth: Wukong being mostly positive, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the game is already breaking records on Steam. In less than 24 hours since the game’s launch on the platform, Black Myth: Wukong has shot up to become one of the most-played games on Steam, peaking at 1,443,570 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. In terms of current players, Black Myth: Wukong sits in the number one position and has more people playing it than some of Valve’s smash-hit titles, such as Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.
The record was previously held by Cyberpunk 2077, which peaked at 1,054,388 players back in 2020, but the record has now been smashed by Black Myth: Wukong in just a matter of hours.
While the likes of Palworld has seen much larger player count spikes than Black Myth: Wukong, this record is made all the more impressive when taking into account that this is a single player, story-driven game and not an online multiplayer game.
