Black Ops 7 Didn’t Even Make It into the Top 150 on Steam
Developed by Treyarch, Black Ops 7 is experiencing an unusual decline on PC, despite the series’ long-standing popularity. It currently sits at number 173 on Steam’s “Most Wishlisted” list. Interestingly, the game lags behind titles like Killer Bean and Gothic Remake on this list. The rising popularity of Battlefield 6 during the same period is cited as the primary reason for this silence.
Is Black Ops 7 Overshadowed by the Competition?
Call of Duty, which has been at the forefront of the FPS genre for years, is now facing serious competition. Battlefield 6 garnered significant attention during its launch, rekindling players’ longing for modern military themes. This has also influenced Activision’s strategy. The series’ flashy cosmetics have been left exclusive to Warzone, while the main multiplayer mode has been refocused towards a more understated, realistic approach. However, this change doesn’t appear to be enough to rekindle player interest.
However, this doesn’t mean everything is going bad. Experts believe that Steam data doesn’t fully reflect Call of Duty’s overall success. The game’s years of sales on Battle.net still drives some PC players there. Furthermore, Black Ops 7 will be available through Game Pass from day one. This is believed to be one of the reasons for the low Steam listing.
Another factor is the series’ console-focused history. The majority of Call of Duty players still play on PlayStation and Xbox, while PC players only make up about 25 percent of the series. Therefore, Steam data may only be a small part of the overall picture.
Still, the situation for Black Ops 7 is noteworthy. Such a low ranking two weeks before its release suggests the series is experiencing its first shakeup in its years-long dominance. The picture may change with the game’s release, but for now, the competition from Battlefield 6 appears to be seriously shaking up the FPS throne.
