Black Panther Game Shelved
There has been a remarkable development regarding the Black Panther game, which is set in the Marvel universe and has been eagerly awaited by players. This production, which EA announced in 2023, was being developed under the name “Black Panther” to be played as a single-player and third-person perspective. However, with the decision taken by the company, not only the game was canceled, but also the game’s developer studio Cliffhanger Studios was closed.
Black Panther Game and Cliffhanger Studios Officially Canceled
According to IGN’s Rebekah Valentine, EA Entertainment President Laura Miele confirmed both the cancellation of the game and the closure of the studio in a note she sent to internal staff. Miele said, “These decisions are not easy. They affect the people we work with and gain experience with.” It was also stated that affected employees will be supported to open up different positions within the company.
Miele’s statement emphasized that the basis of the decision was EA’s focus on the future and to direct its creative resources to projects with the highest growth potential. Although no clear information was shared about how many people were laid off, it was stated that this cut was smaller than the 300-person layoff that took place in April.
The Black Panther game was part of a three-game deal between EA and Marvel. No official gameplay footage had been shared about the game to date, and it was only announced that it would be a single-player action game. In this context, the project had progressed quietly and very little information had been provided to the public.
With this development, which was recorded as EA’s third wave of mass layoffs this year, the loss of labor in the gaming industry is also increasing. More than 2,300 people have lost their jobs in the industry since the beginning of 2025. With EA’s new cuts, this number is expected to exceed 2,500. Marvel has not yet made a statement regarding the cancellation of the game.
