Blade Delay Angers Screenwriter

Marvel Cinematic Universe plans to revive Blade have been disappointing fans with constant delays since 2019. David S. Goyer, the screenwriter of the original 1998 Blade film, is not happy about this situation either. Goyer, who participated in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, reacted to the delay of the new adaptation of Blade and underlined how simple the story of the project actually is.

Goyer’s Blade Review and Message to Marvel

David S. Goyer argues that a new Blade film does not need to be complicated. According to him, the essence of Blade should stand out with its hard fight scenes, dark atmosphere and horror elements. Goyer said, “If Blade is coming back with a new version, the audience wants to see crazy action. There is no need to complicate the story. I don’t understand, why is it so difficult?” and made a reference to Marvel.

Goyer has previously signed major comic book adaptations such as Batman Begins and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, he is hesitant to respond to calls on social media to “Rewrite Blade!”. “Part of me thinks it could be fun, but the other part says, I’ve already made the best version of Blade, so I shouldn’t do it again,” he said, indicating that he is distant from the idea.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is trying to calm fans. Feige gave hope by saying, “We are attached to the Blade character and love Mahershala Ali’s interpretation of the character. Although we can’t give a specific date yet, Blade will definitely be in the MCU.”

While Marvel fans are turning their eyes to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be released in July, the fate of Blade remains uncertain for now. However, Goyer’s exit has once again brought the impatience of those waiting to the forefront.
