Bloodborne 60 FPS Mode Blocked by Sony
FromSoftware’s iconic game Bloodborne has been offering a smoother experience for years thanks to a fan-made 60 FPS mod. However, Sony sent a DMCA notice to the mod’s creator, Lance McDonald, for copyright infringement, demanding that the mod be removed from the internet. McDonald announced in a statement on January 31 that he had to remove all links he shared for the mod.
Why Was the Bloodborne Mod Targeted?
Lance McDonald developed this mod for the PlayStation 4 in 2021, allowing the game to run at 60 FPS. This mod became quite popular among fans, especially since Bloodborne did not have an official performance update or PC version. However, Sony’s targeting of this mod after so many years has also led to speculation that the company is preparing a remaster or re-release of the game.
McDonald confirmed that the mod is now offline, saying, “I received a DMCA notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment today. As a result, I have removed all links that I shared online.” However, since this development does not apply to people who have previously downloaded and used the mod, it may still be available in some form within the community.
Sony’s move has raised hopes among fans that a Bloodborne remaster or PC port is imminent. However, Sony has not made any official announcements on the matter. Bloodborne has only been available on PlayStation 4 since its release in 2015, and there has been no update for players who want better performance.
While fans have been waiting for the game to be released to a wider audience in the future, the removal of the mod has been disappointing to a large segment of the community. It has once again brought to light the strict copyright policies of major gaming companies against modders.
While it remains unclear whether Bloodborne will receive an official performance update, Sony’s intervention raises questions about whether it is a preparation for potential new releases of the game or simply a defense of copyright.
