Will Bonnie and Clyde story affect GTA 6?
It’s been almost a decade since the debut of Grand Theft Auto 5 and it’s still one of the most played games today. Over the last nine years, players have spent thousands of hours in GTA 5, finishing the story over and over again and even trying out everything GTA Online has to offer. While GTA 6 is confirmed to be in development at Rockstar, the developers Bloomberg spoke to for this story said that its release is still a few years away.
Despite this, leaks about the upcoming sequel continue to pour in and the theme of the game seems to be heading in a different direction. Let’s take a look at this story that will be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, which will affect the characters and story of GTA 6.
The short story of Bonnie and Clyde
Born in 1910 and 1909 respectively, Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow were a criminal couple who committed robberies across America during the Great Depression. Bonnie, who had a passion for photography, met Clyde in 1930. Bonnie was 19 and Clyde was 20 when they met. In 1932, the two formed a gang and robbed numerous stores across the United States. By April 1933, their gang had killed five people during robbery attempts or during clashes with rival gangs.
As the gang continued to commit crimes, Bonnie and Clyde grew closer to each other. In 1934, the gang managed to organize a mass breakout at Eastham prison in Texas. During the escape, the gang killed Major Joe Crowson, and things turned into a full-blown manhunt. From then on, the Barrow Gang narrowly escaped capture or death. Along the way, they killed many police officers.
By May 1934, Bonnie and Clyde were the most wanted criminals in the country. A group known as the Gibsland Posse discovered that the Barrow Gang moved in a pattern across the country, visiting gang members along the way. The posse eventually cornered Bonnie and Clyde on Louisiana State Highway 154 (LA 154) and shot and killed them both in their car.
How could the story of Bonnie and Clyde affect GTA 6?
At the time of these events, Bonnie and Clyde’s crime spree was both romanticized and demonized in the media. In recent years, the story of Bonnie and Clyde has been adapted into a number of movies and stage plays, including a musical. In the past, a movie of the same name was even made in 1967.
According to the latest Bloomberg report, GTA 6’s narrative and main characters are inspired by the story of Bonnie and Clyde. The report also states that GTA 6 will have two main playable characters, one of which will be the first playable female character in the series. This could mean that, like the Bonnie and Clyde story, both playable characters will be a crime-focused couple. At the same time, the inspiration for the story could be that the characters will commit fast and crazy crimes in their daily lives, evading the police and leading to a tragic ending.
