Camila Mendes Leaves Door Open for Sequel

Camila Mendes, who just wrapped filming Masters of the Universe, spoke about her experiences with the role and the possibility of reprising her role as Teela in the future. The actress, seen at the premiere of HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry, shared her rigorous training process and the challenging yet enjoyable days on set. While there’s no official sequel yet, Mendes said, “anything is possible.”

Camila Mendes Discusses Possible Return as Teela

Camila Mendes, known for her role on Riverdale, plays Teela in Masters of the Universe. Speaking to Variety, Mendes described the role as one of the most physically and mentally intense experiences of her career. “That week of waiting between my last rehearsal and landing the role was incredibly stressful,” the actress said. “Now, almost a year later, I’ve completed an incredible seven-month period in London.”

Mendes stated that she “lived like a warrior” during filming. She explained that for the role, she completely changed her workout routine, restructured her diet, and grew red hair to replicate Teela’s look. “I’m a total gym person now,” she humorously summarized the process in an Instagram post.

The film’s cast is also quite impressive. Jared Leto plays Skeletor, and Idris Elba plays Man-At-Arms. Morena Baccarin, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, and Charlotte Riley are also involved. The new film combines the spirit of classic MOTU with a modern twist, with costume designs inspired by the original animation.

The project, which has been in development for a long time, is being handled by Amazon/MGM Studios. Bumblebee director Travis Knight is directing, and the script was reworked by Chris Butler from a draft by David Callaham, known for his work on Shang-Chi. The production team includes veterans such as Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.

Masters of the Universe is set to be released on June 5, 2026. While Mendes didn’t provide a definitive answer to questions about the sequel, he excited fans by saying, “I believe Teela’s story won’t end here.” It seems the war on Eternia isn’t over yet.
