Cancelled MMO Project Blackbird Revealed

ZeniMax’s large-scale MMO project Blackbird, which was prepared for the aftermath of Elder Scrolls Online, has been on the agenda with its details despite being canceled. The information that emerged after the layoffs at Xbox includes many details from Blackbird’s universe to its gameplay structure. The game would take place in a huge open world ruled by various alien races.

Blackbird Was Going to Be ZeniMax’s Largest MMO Project

Blackbird was being developed inspired by productions such as Blade Runner, Destiny and Horizon Zero Dawn. Players would fight under systems governed by an artificial intelligence called PAN in the open world set in the Exodus region of the planet Soteria. Five different alien unions rule the people and players would try to maintain this balance as human Revenants.

The unions included the Menst, Calpiten, Nemocytes, W’Hurran and Trahet species. Each with different characteristics, these races resembled the faction structure in Bethesda’s previous RPG games. Blackbird would offer a PvE-focused gameplay with four-person missions and six-person “Strike Mission” modes.

According to the game’s narrative, humans were in a weak position in this universe. However, Revenants working with PAN had the power to change this balance. The story begins with the assassination of a union leader and drags players into a web of complex missions and intriguing relationships.

Vertical mobility was important in gameplay. A grappling hook mechanism was planned that would provide players with abilities such as climbing, wall running and jumping. Characters would be able to choose between classes such as tank, technical operator and healer. In addition, detailed character customization and a skill tree were also included in the game. However, despite all these details, the project was canceled and never met with players.
