Cancelled Prey 2 Gameplay Footage Leaked
The original Prey, released in 2006, was one of the most notable FPS games of the Xbox 360 era, raising expectations for a sequel. However, due to development issues, Prey 2 was canceled by Bethesda in 2014. Years later, gameplay footage from the canceled game, developed by Human Head Studios, has finally leaked online.
Prey 2 Leaked Gameplay Footage
Videos uploaded to YouTube by former Human Head developer David Halsted include prototype scenes, cutscenes, and a roughly ten-minute gameplay demo. These footage offers a glimpse into what Prey 2 will be like.
The game is apparently designed as a sequel to the original 2006 installment, offering players a space-themed bounty hunter story. The project, notable for its open-world structure, would have allowed players to freely explore vast areas. This approach was quite different from the 2017 reboot developed by Arkane Studios, which leaned more towards the sci-fi horror genre.
In 2014, Bethesda stated that Prey 2 failed to meet its quality standards and was therefore canceled. Pete Hines stated at the time that they believed in the game but didn’t see any chance of success even if it were finished. This decision disappointed fans of the series.
The gameplay footage released today once again reminds us of the canceled game’s potential. Although Prey 2 never fully materialized, these videos reveal one of the “if only” moments in gaming history. The game’s distinct vision reveals the kind of universe the series envisioned, rather than simply a remake.
