Cancelled Twisted Metal Game Contains Shocking Details
Sony’s plans to revive its popular vehicular combat series Twisted Metal were canceled in early 2024. However, new information suggests that the game will have a very different concept from previous installments in the series. Developed under the code name Project Copper, the game aimed to combine battle royale and third-person gameplay elements.
Twisted Metal: Battle Royale and Third-Person Gameplay
According to details shared on a user interface programmer’s website, the canceled Twisted Metal game was designed in a battle royale format. The main goal of the players was defined as “being the last one standing.” The visuals included scenes where players could fight while standing on vehicles and use weapons from a third-person perspective. This reveals that the series aims to offer a broader gameplay experience by going beyond the usual vehicular combat mechanics.
The game was being developed with Unreal Engine 5, which hinted at a visually impressive experience. However, these innovative ideas were not realized when the project was canceled before it was completed.
The last game in the Twisted Metal series was a reboot released in 2012. No new main game has been added to the series since then. This canceled project was one of Sony’s attempts to bring Twisted Metal back to the players. In addition, this game was planned to be released simultaneously with Sony’s Twisted Metal live-action series.
At the moment, the future of Twisted Metal remains uncertain. However, fans can continue to experience nostalgia with classic games such as Twisted Metal 1-2 and Twisted Metal: Black, which are available on the PlayStation Store. Although this canceled project has sparked great curiosity among fans of the series, it is still unknown when a new Twisted Metal game will be released.
