Cancelled Warhammer Game Was An Age of Sigmar RPG

It was announced that an Age of Sigmar RPG game that would bring a new breath to the Warhammer universe was being developed in partnership between Nexon and Games Workshop, but the project was canceled last year. This game, which was being worked on by a studio called Thought Pennies, was designed to be released on PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. The project, which was preparing to offer players an epic PvE experience in the Mortal Realms, was shelved due to Nexon’s strategic changes.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar RPG Game Details

Announced in 2021, this Warhammer project aimed to offer a story-driven PvE experience in which players would fight against the forces of chaos by commanding Sigmar’s warriors. In the game, it would be possible to collect characters, each with unique stories and game mechanics, and to recapture different regions by customizing these characters. In addition, this social multiplayer game, which was planned to be updated regularly with new seasons, would be supported by Nexon’s Live Operations system.

“Our partnership with Nexon was going well and we received a lot of positive feedback. However, with Nexon making a strategic decision, we have decided to end the project,” a Thought Pennies spokesperson told Eurogamer.

Despite this cancellation, the Warhammer universe continues to expand. Games Workshop announced last year that it is working on new projects after the hugely successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. In addition, thanks to its partnership with Amazon Studios, film and television adaptations of the Warhammer universe will soon be available to audiences.

While the cancellation of the Age of Sigmar RPG project was a huge disappointment for Warhammer fans, it is certain that Games Workshop will continue to expand the universe with different platforms and projects. Players eagerly awaiting the studio’s new announcements in the future.
