Card Game in Development for League of Legends Universe

Riot Games has announced that it is developing a new card game based on the League of Legends franchise called Project K. In a teaser, game director Dave Guskin and producer Chengran Chai introduce the new project. Project K is not a physical version of League of Legends’ digital card game Legends of Runeterra, but it draws inspiration from it for its design and environments.

Thematic Decks for Each Champion

Each champion in Project K will receive their own themed deck. The teaser shows decks for Viktor, Volibear, Yasuo, and Jinx. Guskin said it was a privilege to create a League of Legends game that appeals to a diverse audience.

Guskin added that these players are people who want to get together around the table and immerse themselves in the games, environments, and characters they love with their family and friends. Project K is designed to be both a casual and competitive game.

The development team expects Project K to be “the ultimate social card game” and to feature regular events as well as a competitive ecosystem. The card game is planned to be released region by region next year.

Riot Games also announced that China will be the first region to experience Project K. Players will be able to try out various demo decks at the Teamfight Tactics tournament in Macau on December 13-14, 2024.

Project K will be played in a traditional 1v1 card game format, but can also be played in groups of up to four players. Two Runes will be earned each turn, which can be used for units and spells.

Project K will be one of the fastest-developed games for Riot Games. Alongside other League of Legends spin-offs like Teamfight Tactics and Wild Rift, there’s also the fighting game 2XKO, which is set to release next year.
