Cillian Murphy’s 28 Years Later Return Leaked

Cillian Murphy, known for the 2002 cult horror film 28 Days Later, is returning to the series after many years. However, contrary to expectations, Murphy will not be fully involved in the first film of the 28 Years Later trilogy. According to statements made by director Danny Boyle, his character Jim will appear in the second film and this return will play a critical role in the future of the series.

Cillian Murphy Will Appear in the Second Film, Not the First

In interviews with Danny Boyle, it was confirmed that Cillian Murphy will make a brief appearance at the end of the first film, The Bone Temple. The director stated that Murphy’s appearance was important in financing the sequel to the trilogy. It was also emphasized that Sony did not object to this structure and trusted the creative team’s vision.

Boyle also said that the three films are directly connected to each other, and that character transitions and story continuity are planned. The first two films were shot back-to-back and each completes its own story, but includes sections that provide a transition to the next. There is no official confirmation yet for the third film.

28 Years Later focuses on the story of a group of survivors on an isolated island from the infected area after a quarantine period that lasted almost 30 years. One of this group goes to the mainland for a mysterious mission and confronts the changes experienced by the infected and other survivors.

It is stated that Sony Pictures has approved this project for two films for now, but will decide on the success of the third film. Cillian Murphy’s presence in the second film aims to increase interest in the series and guarantee the shooting of the final film. The film’s release date was announced as June 20, 2025.
