Cities: Skylines 2 Expansion Delayed Once Again

The expansion pack planned for Cities: Skylines 2, which has been on the agenda for a long time, seems to be making players wait a little longer. The DLC, which was originally planned to be released in 2023, was postponed to the last quarter of 2025 due to consecutive disruptions. Developer Colossal Order made this decision based on feedback from early access players.

Cities: Skylines 2 Bridges & Ports Expansion Delayed to the End of 2025

The game’s first major expansion pack, Bridges & Ports, was originally set to be released in the first half of 2024. However, the studio changed its priorities due to performance issues with the base game and player feedback. During this process, emphasis was placed on working on the asset editor tool, which was described as “critical”. The pack, which was expected to be released in June 2024, was moved to the fourth quarter of 2025 with the latest decision.

According to the studio’s statement on the Paradox forum, the content has been in the works for five months, and feedback from early access players has determined that the bridges are successful and the port structures are functional. However, it was determined that the overall experience was not polished enough. Therefore, either a release with incomplete content was to be made or the release was to be delayed. Colossal Order chose the second option in order not to compromise on quality.

The development team announced that they will continue to work to identify the shortcomings of the current DLC and develop the content to meet player expectations. It was emphasized that time is needed to deliver an expansion experience at the level that players deserve. Despite this, the whole year will not go by without new content. Two new bridges, three entertainment piers, and three docks will be added to the game with the free update to be released on June 11.

On the other hand, there is still no clear date for the console version of Cities: Skylines 2. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game were originally going to be released together with the PC version. However, these versions have been postponed indefinitely due to technical limitations. In the statement made in March, it was stated that there would be no broadcast before the summer, but no new information has been shared since then.
