Court Ruling on Donkey Kong Scandal
The incident, which has long been a source of controversy in the Donkey Kong world, became clear when the court announced its decision. In the case heard in Australia, YouTuber Karl Jobst was sentenced to pay more than $230,000 in damages for slandering Billy Mitchell. The allegations were based on a video Jobst published in 2021.
Slander and Court Process in the Donkey Kong Scandal
Billy Mitchell filed a lawsuit after serious accusations were made against him in Karl Jobst’s video titled “History’s Greatest Scammers Strike Again.” The video implied that Mitchell had caused the suicide of another YouTuber, Apollo Legend, and that he was pleased with the situation. However, the court found these allegations unfounded and ruled that Mitchell was right.
Judge Ken Barlow stated that the video had been viewed by more than 500,000 people and that it had caused serious damage to Mitchell’s reputation. He also emphasized that despite the video being edited several times after it was published, the false accusations in the content continued.
As a result of the court, Jobst was ordered to pay a total of 380 thousand Australian dollars (approximately 237 thousand US dollars). This amount includes compensation for moral damages, aggravating factors, and interest. The judge stated that Mitchell could have requested more compensation, but only the amount requested was paid.
Karl Jobst stated in a statement after the decision that he was saddened by the court’s outcome and thanked his supporters. The Donkey Kong scandal has reignited ethical debates in the gaming world and seems likely to remain on the agenda for a long time.
