Crysis Quietly Removed From Steam

The game that defined the system test of a generation with the question “Can it run Crysis?” is no longer on Steam. Crytek removed the original Crysis from the platform without any warning from 2007. For those who still do not have the game in their library, only the remaster version remains.

Why Was Crysis Removed from Steam?

Crysis was first removed from Steam with the release of the remastered version in 2021. However, at that time, it was still accessible with the Warhead expansion pack in the “Maximum Edition” package. Now, this package has also been completely deleted from the platform. When the link to the package is clicked, it is directed directly to the Steam homepage.

Interestingly enough, Warhead is still on sale separately, suggesting that only the main game is being targeted. Crytek has yet to provide any explanation as to why the game was removed. This has drawn criticism from players who want to relive Crysis with nostalgia.

The only way to buy the original Crysis is through GOG. This digital store, owned by CD Projekt RED, is known for its game preservation and DRM-free content policy. The game is currently on sale for £3.99 as part of GOG’s summer sales. Players who purchase it will have permanent access without needing an internet connection.

There is more bad news for the Crysis universe. Development of the latest game in the series, Crysis 4, was suspended earlier this year. Crysis 3 has also been unavailable on Steam for a long time and is currently only available with an EA Play subscription. It is becoming increasingly difficult to experience the original versions of the series.
