Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Release Date Announced

The long-awaited release date for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, a game developed by Big Bad Wolf and published by NACON, will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on April 16, 2026. The first gameplay footage was also released at the Galaxies Gaming Showcase.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Takes Players to the Depths of R’lyeh

Inspired by Lovecraftian mythology, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss takes players to a quiet mining station deep beneath the Pacific Ocean. Players take on the role of Noah, a detective investigating supernatural events. Voiced by Jua Amir from Detroit: Become Human, Noah is accompanied on this mysterious quest by his AI companion, KEY.

KEY assists the player with various tools. For example, it can analyze clues with sonar or uncover invisible details. As players navigate both land and sea, they encounter numerous puzzles to solve and choices that offer alternative endings. One of the game’s most striking locations is the legendary city of R’lyeh—the place where Cthulhu was imprisoned according to myth. This is the first time this city has been explored in detail in a video game.

As the journey progresses, the character’s sanity is increasingly tested. As the line between reality and nightmare blurs, Cthulhu’s presence becomes palpable. The player’s decisions determine not only the direction of the story but also Noah’s fate. The development team states that the game features multiple endings, and each player’s experience will be unique.

While Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss may seem like a classic horror game at first glance, its narrative-driven structure and psychological thriller elements aim to breathe new life into the genre. With its visual atmosphere and Lovecraftian sense of mystery, it’s poised to be one of the most striking releases of 2026.

The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on April 16, 2026. Players can also register for a pre-test at my.nacongaming.com, which will run from October 28 to November 4.
