Cyberpunk 2077 Still Popular in Its 4th Year
CD Projekt Red’s controversial debut Cyberpunk 2077 continues to grow its player base even after four years. The game has achieved great success by reaching 70,000 concurrent players per night on Steam. These figures exceed many live service games. It is stated that this increase in the game is attributed to the recent 2.2 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion pack. Players have started to show renewed interest in Cyberpunk 2077 thanks to the renewed mechanics, customization options and improved gameplay.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Success Over the Years
Cyberpunk 2077 reached over one million concurrent players in December 2020 when it was released, but this number quickly dropped due to technical issues. However, extensive improvements made by CD Projekt Red have allowed the game to gain more players every year.
- 2021: 15,000-20,000 concurrent players
- 2022: 18,000-25,000 concurrent players
- 2023: 30,000-35,000 concurrent players (Phantom Liberty reached 274,000 at launch)
- 2024: 40,000-50,000 concurrent players
By 2025, the game had gained impressive momentum, reaching 60,000-70,000 players per night. And these numbers only include players on Steam; console players are not included in this data. On Xbox, the game is currently the 24th most-played game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is considered one of the greatest comebacks in video game history. This success, which has been compared to games like No Man’s Sky and Final Fantasy XIV, is the result of the extensive work that CD Projekt Red has done to develop the game. The innovations and improvements in the general structure of the game that came with the Phantom Liberty expansion pack were met with great appreciation by the players.
